LATEST MATCHES – EURO FINAL

Sunday 14th July

It’s the EURO 2024 Final. Who will take the trophy?

SPAIN vs ENGLAND (14/07/24)

Kick-off 19:00 GMT, Olympiastadion, Berlin

Spain vs England | Betting predictions

Spain are one match away from their third European Championship title in the last five tournaments and have consistently been one of the most impressive teams throughout this tournament. In a thrilling semi-final against France, the Spanish went a goal behind after eight minutes but  led 2-1 by the 25th-minute. Although the scoring ended there, both teams had further chances. Kylian Mbappé set up the French opener, but he generally had a quiet game after that and missed a good chance to equalise near the end. However, the headlines were grabbed by teenage sensation Lamine Yamal. The Barcelona youngster will turn 17 years of age the day before the final and, in scoring the Spanish equaliser, he became the youngest goalscorer in European Championship history. The second Spanish goal was a deflected effort scored by Dani Olmo. That goal puts Olmo top of the Golden Boot rankings, with three goals and two assists to date. Pedri will play no part in this match after suffering a tournament-ending injury against Germany in the quarter-finals.

England are proving to be one of the most resilient teams in the Euros, as their semi-final over the Netherlands was the third successive match in which they have come from behind to progress. The win over the Dutch was their best performance so far in this tournament, with the 91st-minute goal from substitute Ollie Watkins deciding the match. Harry Kane scored England’s equalising goal from a hotly disputed penalty, which was only awarded after the intervention of VAR. However, the England captain still looked a bit below-par in his overall performance. The English have never won the Euros, but have now matched their performance in Euro 2020 in reaching the final. Can they finally go one better against a Spanish side that go into Sunday’s final as clear favourites?

Spain vs England | Match Facts

Spain vs England | Current form

PAST PREDICTIONS – SEMI-FINALS

SPAIN vs FRANCE (09/07/24)

Kick-off 19:00 GMT, Fußball Arena München, Munich

Spain vs France | Betting predictions

Spain remain on course for their third European Championship title in the last five tournaments after a hard-fought quarter-final victory over Germany. Both sides played their part in a compelling encounter, with the tie ultimately decided in the 119th-minute when a powerful header from substitute Mikel Merino silenced the home fans. It was a match that could have gone either way, with Germany going close several times before the late Spanish winner. However, Spain will have two players suspended for the semi-final. Dani Carvajal was shown a red card after receiving his second yellow card in the Germany match, whilst Robin le Normand will also miss out after picking up his second yellow card in the tournament. Additionally, Pedri left the field after an early injury and looks set to miss the rest of the tournament.

Despite being far from their best, France have found a way to progress in these Euros. Astonishingly, after playing five matches and reaching the semi-finals, the French are yet to score a goal from open play. They have only scored three times so far: once from a Kylian Mbappé penalty and twice from own goals. On the flip side, they have only conceded once in those five matches. They scraped past Portugal on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes, in which they seemed happy to sit back and not concede rather than look for a winning goal. Mbappé left the field before the penalty shootout after being struck in the face by the ball and seemed in some discomfort with his nose already broken. Didier Deschamps has a full squad to choose from with no suspensions, assuming that his talismanic captain is fit to play.

Spain vs France | Match Facts

  • These sides last met in the 2021 Nations League final. Kylian Mbappé scored the winning goal in a 2-1 victory for the French.
  • There has been just one goalless draw in the 36 matches they have played, which came in a friendly game in 1963.
  • In their 11 meetings this century, Spain have won six times, France four times, and one match was drawn.

Spain vs France | Current form

  • Spain have won their last 13 competitive matches, conceding just seven goals in that sequence.
  • Since their penalty defeat in the 2022 World Cup final, France are unbeaten in their last 13 competitive matches (W9, D4). However, they have now gone six games since scoring more than once in a match.

Score prediction: Spain 1-0 France

NETHERLANDS vs ENGLAND (10/07/24)

Kick-off 19:00 GMT, BVB Stadion, Dortmund

Netherlands vs England | Betting predictions

Since winning the Euros in 1988, the Netherlands reached the semi-finals in three of the next four European Championships but failed to progress any further each time. In Saturday’s quarter-final against Turkey, they were on the back foot initially and deservedly went in a goal down at half time. However, the Netherlands improved in the second half, with substitute Wout Weghorst unsettling the Turkish defence as they took a 2-1 lead. The Dutch held on despite several late chances being spurned by Turkey. Cody Gakpo is currently joint top of the Euro scoring list with three goals, and he is the only player on that number still left in the tournament. He thought he had added to his total against Turkey, only for the goal to be awarded as an own goal.

For the second match running, England needed to come from behind to take a knockout match into extra-time. Although their performance against the Swiss was a slight improvement over previous matches, they will need to step-up again if they are to reach the final. Switzerland matched them throughout the regular and extra-time, and it took a flawless penalty shootout from England to secure their passage. England captain Harry Kane again looked a shadow of his former self, and the back injury he suffered towards the end of the domestic season may still be troubling him. Manager Gareth Southgate reverted to a three-at-the-back formation for his 100th match in charge, but will he stick with that set-up for this match?

Netherlands vs England | Match Facts

  • The last competitive match between these sides was in the 2019 Nations League semi-final, when the Netherlands won 3-1 after extra-time.
  • Prior to that, their last meeting in tournament football was in the 1996 Euros, when England won 4-1 in a group-stage match.
  • In the last 15 meeting in all competitions, England have beaten the Netherlands just twice (W2, D7, L6).

Netherlands vs England | Current form

  • The Netherlands have lost two of their last 12 matches—a run which includes a 6-0 and three 4-0 victories.
  • England have not lost a competitive game since the 2022 World Cup (W7, D6). However, they have failed to score more than once during regular time in any of their six competitive games since defeating Malta 2-0 in November last year.

Score prediction: Netherlands 1-2 England

PAST PREDICTIONS – QUARTER-FINALS

SPAIN vs GERMANY (05/07/24)

Kick-off 16:00 GMT, Stuttgart Arena, Stuttgart

Spain vs Germany | Betting predictions

The Euro 2024 quarter-finals start with the most anticipated match of the tournament so far, as Spain take on Germany. The Spanish have won all four of their matches to date, but were given an early scare after conceding first to Georgia in the round of 16. However, waves of Spanish attacks eventually paid dividends, as they ended up winning 4-1  after amassing 35 shots to Georgia’s four. This will be Spain’s toughest test yet in what is a very tough top half of the draw.

Germany defeated Denmark 2-0 to reach this stage, but progress was far less straightforward for them. The match was suspended for 20 minutes during the first half as streaks of lightning lit up the skies above the stadium alongside some torrential rain. However, it was VAR that proceeded to grab some of the headlines. An early German goal was disallowed for a foul in the build-up, whilst Denmark thought they had taken the lead early in the second half only for VAR to intervene again. This time it was for a very marginal offside and, moments later, VAR then pointed out a handball and Kai Havertz scored from the resulting penalty. The decisive second goal was scored by Jamal Musiala, who became the first player in these finals to score three goals.

Spain vs Germany | Match Facts

  • These sides last met in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup. The result was 1-1, with Niclas Füllkrug levelling after Álvaro Morata opened the scoring for Spain.
  • Prior to that, they met in the Nations League in 2020. A 1-1 draw in Stuttgart was followed by a 6-0 Spanish victory in Sevilla, in which Ferran Torres scored a hattrick.
  • The last time Germany beat Spain in a competitive match was in 1988. In the six games since then, Spain have won three times and three matches finished in 1-1 draws.

Spain vs Germany | Current form

  • Spain have won their last 12 competitive matches, conceding just six goals in that sequence.
  • Germany are unbeaten in their last eight matches (W6, D2).

Score prediction: Spain 2-1 Germany

PORTUGAL vs FRANCE (05/07/24)

Kick-off 19:00 GMT, Volksparkstadion, Hamburg

Portugal vs France | Betting predictions

Portugal finally overcame a stubborn Slovenia side to reach the quarter-finals. Whilst the match ended goalless, it was not short of incidents. Cristiano Ronaldo was desperate for his first goal of the tournament, and he took every free kick awarded anywhere near the Slovenian goal, albeit without success. Then, during extra-time, Portugal were given a penalty, but a fantastic save from Jan Oblak denied Ronaldo again. However, it was the Portuguese keeper, Diogo Costa, who proved the hero in the penalty shootout; he saved all three of the Slovenian penalties, whilst Portugal scored all theirs. For Portugal, that was the second successive match in which they didn’t find the net during normal or extra-time.

A late own goal by Jan Vertonghen was enough to see France claim a 1-0 victory and knock Belgium out of the Euros. However, it was a match lacking quality, with the French again struggling to score and Belgium looking like a team on the decline. France are the lowest scoring team left in the competition and, astonishingly, they have yet to score a goal from open play after playing four games. Their three goals have come from a Kylian Mbappé penalty and two own goals. They did take nineteen shots against Belgium, but only two were on target. Midfielder Adrien Rabiot will miss this match through suspension after picking up his second yellow card in that game.

Portugal vs France | Match Facts

  • These sides met in the group stage of Euro 2020. The match finished in an eventful 2-2 draw, in which three penalties were scored. Cristiano Ronaldo scored two penalties for Portugal, whilst Karim Benzema scored twice for France, with one of those strikes coming from the penalty spot.
  • Portugal have beaten France just once in their last 14 meetings —a run which includes 10 successive losses between 1978 and 2015.
  • In a tournament where both teams have struggled in front of goal, the top scorer for both these sides is ‘own goals’.

Portugal vs France | Current form

  • The 0-0 full-time result against Slovenia was Portugal’s first draw in 30 matches, dating back to June 2022.
  • France are unbeaten in their last 13 competitive matches (W10, D3). However, they have now gone five games since scoring more than once in a match.

Score prediction: Portugal 0-2 France

ENGLAND vs SWITZERLAND (06/07/24)

Kick-off 16:00 GMT, Düsseldorf Arena, Düsseldorf

England vs Switzerland | Betting predictions

England were within a whisker of being eliminated by Slovakia until an overhead kick from Jude Bellingham found the bottom corner of the net, with just seconds remaining, to take the match into extra-time. That was England’s first shot on target in the entire match. Then, a minute into the additional period, Harry Kane scored the decisive goal that sent England through. However, this was a fourth successive sub-par performance from England in these Euros, and they will need to improve considerably if they are to reach the semi-finals.

Switzerland gave Germany a scare in their last group game and then took that form into the round of 16, where they comprehensively despatched the reigning champions, Italy. The Swiss dominated that match throughout and will be full of confidence against England. To emphasise how much of a team effort this campaign has been, all seven of Switzerland’s goals have been scored by different players. The Swiss will be looking to make a bit of history in this match, as they have never previously progressed beyond the quarter-finals in either the European Championship or World Cup. In Euro 2020, they did reach this stage, but were eliminated by Spain after a penalty shootout.

England vs Switzerland | Match Facts

  • England have lost just once in the last 24 meetings between these sides—a 2-1 defeat in 1981.
  • Their last competitive match was in the 2019 Nations League. That game finished 0-0 after extra-time, with England winning 6-5 on penalties.
  • Switzerland have not scored in their last four competitive matches against England.

England vs Switzerland | Current form

  • England have not lost a competitive game since the 2022 World Cup (W7, D5). However, they have failed to score more than once during regular time of any game since defeating Malta 2-0 in November last year.
  • Switzerland have won two and drawn two of their Euro 2024 matches to date, and have only lost once in their last 18 matches (W8, D9, L1) in all competitions.

Score prediction: England 1-1 Switzerland (after 90 minutes play)

NETHERLANDS vs TURKEY (06/07/24)

Kick-off 19:00 GMT, Olympiastadion, Berlin

Netherlands vs Turkey | Betting predictions

The Netherlands eased to a quarter-final place in a one-sided victory over Romania. After soaking up some early pressure and scoring their first goal, the Netherlands created numerous chances but failed to convert those chances into more goals until the near the end of the match. Donyell Malen came off the bench as a half-time substitute and sealed the 3-0 victory with two goals in the 83rd and 93rd minute respectively. After a disappointing end to the group stage, will this victory be the springboard that propels the Dutch towards their first major trophy since the 1988 Euros? Ronald Koeman should have a full squad to choose from, with no suspensions or injuries to contend with.

Turkey defied expectations to defeat Austria in a thrilling end-to-end knockout match. Centre-back Merih Demiral scored both of Turkey’s goals, including an opening goal after just 57 seconds. That was the quickest goal in the knockout stages of any Euro finals. They were also indebted to goalkeeper Mert Günok, who made a world class save in the dying seconds. Their starting eleven also included two 19-year-olds, Arda Güler and Kenan Yıldız, who play their club football for Real Madrid and Juventus respectively. Turkey will be without the suspended Orkun Kökçü and İsmail Yüksek for this match. Can this young Turkish side emulate their side from Euro 2008 and reach the semi-finals?

Netherlands vs Turkey | Match Facts

  • These sides last met in the 2022 World Cup qualifying groups. Turkey won 4-2 in İstanbul, whilst the Netherlands won 6-1 in Amsterdam.
  • In those matches, Burak Yılmaz (since retired) scored a hattrick for Turkey in the first match. Meanwhile, Memphis Depay did likewise for the Dutch in the second match.
  • Historically there has not been much to separate these teams. In 14 previous meetings, the Netherlands have won six, Turkey have won four, and four matches have been drawn.

Netherlands vs Turkey | Current form

  • The Netherlands have lost two of their last 11 matches—a run which includes a 6-0 and three 4-0 victories.
  • Turkey have won three of their four matches in these Euros but are yet to keep a clean sheet. They have only stopped their opponents from scoring once in their last 10 matches.

Score prediction: Netherlands 2-1 Turkey

PAST PREDICTIONS – ROUND OF 16

SWITZERLAND vs ITALY (29/06/24)

Kick-off 16:00 GMT, Olympiastadion, Berlin

Switzerland vs Italy | Betting predictions

Switzerland have qualified for the knockout rounds in the Euros for the third time running. In Euro 2020, they defeated France on penalties in the round of 16, only to be eliminated by Spain in the same manner in the quarter-finals. In their final group game on Sunday, the Swiss were moments away from defeating hosts Germany and topping Group A, but ultimately succumbed to a 92nd-minute equaliser in a 1-1 draw and finished second. They come into this match without defender Silvan Widmer, who has a one-match suspension after picking up two yellow cards in the group stage.

A dramatic end to the Italy vs Croatia match saw the Italians leapfrog their opponents into second place in the group, courtesy of an equalising goal from Mattia Zaccagni in the last minute of stoppage time. Even though Italy may still have qualified as one of the best-placed third teams, that goal guaranteed their place in the knockout rounds. Despite being the defending champions, Italy still look some way off matching that level this time around. They conceded an early goal in edging past Albania and were second best against both Spain and Croatia. Italy may be without two of their regular starting defenders for this match. Riccardo Calafiori is definitely out, as he’s serving a one-match suspension, whilst Federico Dimarco, who was a doubt before the Croatia game, eventually started but was replaced after 57 minutes.

Switzerland vs Italy | Match Facts

  • These sides were drawn in the same qualifying group for the 2022 World Cup. Both matches between them were drawn: 0-0 in Basel and 1-1 in Rome. Switzerland ultimately topped the group, with Italy finishing second.
  • Silvan Widmer scored the goal in that 1-1 draw, but the Swiss defender is suspended for this match.
  • Six of the previous eight matches in all competitions between these sides have ended in draws, with Italy winning the other two. The last time Switzerland beat Italy was in 1993.

Switzerland vs Italy | Current form

  • Switzerland won one and drew two of their group stage matches, and have only lost once in their last 17 matches (W7, D9, L1) in all competitions.
  • Italy have lost twice in their last 14 matches, once against Spain in these finals and once against England in the qualifying group last October.

Score prediction: Switzerland 1-1 Italy (after 90 minutes play)

GERMANY vs DENMARK (29/06/24)

Kick-off 19:00 GMT, BVB Stadion, Dortmund

Germany vs Denmark | Betting predictions

Germany rescued a late draw against Switzerland with an injury time equaliser, which was enough to ensure they finished in top place in Group A. They were the top-scoring team in the group stages and will fancy their chances against a Denmark side who are struggling to find the net. However, the match against the Swiss was their least impressive performance to date, and with manager Julian Nagelsmann having named the same starting XI for the third match running, there may have been some fatigue creeping into a few players. Germany did manage 18 shots in the match, but only three were on target. They will need to make changes for this match, as centre-back Jonathan Tah is suspended. Meanwhile, his partner at the back, Antonio Rüdiger, appeared to pick up a thigh injury whilst celebrating the German equaliser against the Swiss, and it’s not known at this time if he will miss this match.

Denmark finished second in Group C without winning a match, as three draws was enough to see them progress. They finished above Slovenia only by virtue of having a better disciplinary record, with the yellow card shown to the Slovenian coach in an earlier match being the deciding factor. Although the Danes had the better of their match against Serbia, they rarely threatened and, for most of the match, seemed content with settling for a point to guarantee they made the knockout rounds. However, a second yellow card in the group stage for influential midfielder Morten Hjulmand means that he will sit out this match. Their main goal threat, Rasmus Højlund, has yet to get on the scoresheet and managed just two shots on target across the three group-stage matches.

Germany vs Denmark | Match Facts

  • This is a repeat of the Euro 1992 final, in which Denmark beat Germany 2-0 in Gothenburg.
  • Their last competitive meeting was in the group stage at Euro 2012, where Germany won 2-1.
  • Both of their most recent matches, friendlies in 2017 and 2021, finished 1-1.

Germany vs Denmark | Current form

  • Germany are unbeaten in their last seven matches (W5, D2).
  • Denmark have lost just one of their last 15  matches (W9, D5, L1).

Score prediction: Germany 2-0 Denmark

ENGLAND vs SLOVAKIA (30/06/24)

Kick-off 16:00 GMT, Arena AufSchalke, Gelsenkirchen

England vs Slovakia | Betting predictions

England have regained favouritism for the tournament after winning their group and finding themselves in the more favourable side of the draw. However, their performances so far do not justify the favourites tag with sub-par efforts in each of their three group stage matches. England struggled to create chances in the goalless draw against Slovenia and only started to look dangerous after the introduction of Kobbie Mainoo and Cole Palmer in the second half. With manager Gareth Southgate booed by a section of the England fans at the end of the game, will he make the changes to his starting XI that the fans are demanding?

Slovakia progressed as one of the best-placed third teams, earning a point in a 1-1 draw with Romania in their final group match to ensure their place in the round of 16. Slovakia will be encouraged by the fact that England have struggled to break teams down in their Euro matches to date and will hope their defence will stand strong against the likes of Harry Kane. In the only time Slovakia previously qualified for the knockout rounds in Euro 2016, they lost 3-0 to Germany.

England vs Slovakia | Match Facts

  • These sides have met six times previously. England have won five matches, with one game drawn.
  • That draw came in the group stage of the Euro 2016 finals. The match ended 0-0, despite England having 28 goal attempts on goal compared to four for Slovakia.
  • Slovakia scored the opening goal in each of their three group-stage games in these finals.

England vs Slovakia | Current form

  • England have not lost a competitive game since the 2022 World Cup (W7, D4). In their last four matches in all competitions, they have only scored twice, and just conceded twice.
  • Slovakia are not an easy team to beat, having lost just four of their last 20 matches. Only one of those defeats was by more than one goal.

Score prediction: England 2-0 Slovakia

SPAIN vs GEORGIA (30/06/24)

Kick-off 19:00 GMT, Cologne Stadium, Cologne

Spain vs Georgia | Betting predictions

Spain have been one of the most impressive sides in this tournament so far, winning all three of their group matches without conceding a goal. After having already secured top place in the group after their first two matches, Spanish manager Luis de la Fuente was able to make 10 changes to the starting line-up against Albania, and with his substitutions during the match he ensured every outfield player in his squad got some game time. The first-choice Spanish XI should therefore be well rested coming into this match. Spain will be hoping Nacho will be fit enough to return to centre of their defence after he picked up a minor injury in their opening match and subsequently missed the other group games.

After making the finals of their first ever major tournament, Georgia have gone one step further and qualified for the knockout rounds. Based on Fifa rankings, their 2-0 victory over Portugal in the final group stage match was the biggest upset in the history of the Euro finals. Portugal may have made eight changes to their previous starting line-up as top place in the table was already assured, but that does not detract from a courageous performance from the unfancied Georgians. Georges Mikautadze heads the tournament scorer list after the group stage with three goals, albeit two coming from the penalty spot. Now they face their toughest assignment to date.

Spain vs Georgia | Match Facts

  • These sides have met seven times previously. Spain have won all the six competitive fixtures, whilst Georgia won a friendly in 2016.
  • They were drawn in the same qualifying group for these finals. Spain won both matches convincingly, 3-1 at home and 7-1 away.
  • The goal aggregate over those seven matches is 19-4 in Spain’s favour.

Spain vs Georgia | Current form

  • Spain have won their last 11 competitive matches, conceding just five goals in that sequence.
  • Georgia recovered well after an opening 3-1 defeat to Turkey in these Euros. That was only their second defeat in their last 10 matches.

Score prediction: Spain 3-0 Georgia

FRANCE vs BELGIUM (01/07/24)

Kick-off 16:00 GMT, Düsseldorf Arena, Düsseldorf

France vs Belgium | Betting predictions

France made hard work of progressing from their qualifying group, and by failing to beat an already eliminated Poland in their final game they could only manage to finish second. That puts them into the harder half of the draw for the knockout rounds, however they can have few complaints. Although remaining undefeated, the French only scored twice in three group games. One came from the penalty spot and the other courtesy of an own goal. It was a masked Kylian Mbappé who scored from the penalty spot and he will be crucial to French hopes if they are to progress deep into this tournament.

Belgium were another side who were expected to qualify with ease but found the going tough. In the end, they finished second in their group courtesy of a  0-0 draw against Ukraine in their final match. A win would have seen them top the group and avoid such a tricky round of 16 match, however had they lost, they would have exited the competition. Despite the advantage of being in the favourable side of the draw had they won the match, they were disappointing throughout and spent the last few minutes running the clock down to ensure they gained the single point. Like the French, Belgium only scored two goals in their group games, drawing a blank in two of those matches.

France vs Belgium | Match Facts

  • These sides have met just twice in competitive matches since the turn of the century, in 2018 and 2021. France won both games.
  • In their 2021 meeting in the Nations League, Belgium were leading 2-0 at half-time before France recovered to win 3-2.
  • In their last 10 meetings, France have won five times, Belgium twice, with three matches drawn.

France vs Belgium | Current form

  • France are unbeaten in their last 12 competitive matches (W9, D3), but those three draws have come in their last four matches.
  • Belgium’s loss to Slovakia in these Euros is their only defeat from their last 18 matches.

Score prediction: France 1-0 Belgium

PORTUGAL vs SLOVENIA (01/07/24)

Kick-off 19:00 GMT, Frankfurt Arena, Frankfurt

Portugal vs Slovenia | Betting predictions

Portugal had already wrapped up top place in their group after winning their first two matches when making eight changes to the starting line-up for their final game against Georgia. However, the wholesale changes did not work as they lost 2-0 in one of the biggest Euro upsets of all time. Whilst the starting XI will undoubtedly be more familiar for this match, will that defeat have affected their confidence? Cristiano Ronaldo did start this match but cut a forlorn figure for most of the 66 minutes he was on the pitch. He was booked for dissent during the first half, was frustrated at being substituted, and is still looking for his first goal of these finals.

A third-place group finish with three points was enough to see Slovenia progress, with each of their matches ending all-square. It was a hard-fought group, with none of the four teams scoring more than a single goal in any game. Slovenia defended strongly in keeping out a disappointing England team in the 0-0 draw that concluded the group, although they were never really put under too much pressure.

Portugal vs Slovenia | Match Facts

  • These sides have only met once previously. That was in a friendly match in Ljubljana back in March this year.
  • Slovakia won that match 2-0, with goals in the 72nd and 80th minutes.
  • This is the first time Slovenia have qualified for the knockout rounds in a major tournament.

Portugal vs Slovenia | Current form

  • Portugal have gone an astonishing 29 matches without a draw. Their record is 22 wins and seven defeats since a 1-1 draw with Spain in June 2022.
  • Slovenia have lost only two matches from their last 24 (W13, D9, L2). They have drawn each of their last four matches.

Score prediction: Portugal 2-1 Slovenia

ROMANIA vs NETHERLANDS (02/07/24)

Kick-off 16:00 GMT, Fußball Arena München, Munich

Romania vs Netherlands | Betting predictions

In the closest of all the groups, Romania claimed the top spot by virtue of their goals scored after each team finished on four points. A point in an entertaining 1-1 draw against Slovakia was enough to see them through, with Răzvan Marin scoring his second goal of the tournament, this time from the penalty spot. This is only the second time Romania have progressed beyond the group stage in the Euro finals, the previous occasion was in Euro 2000 when they reached the quarter-finals.

The Netherlands progressed as one of the best third-placed teams, with one win, one draw and one loss from their group games. They had looked defensively sound in their goalless draw with France, but in the 3-2 defeat by Austria in their final match they were very shaky at the back. Whether the Netherlands had eased off knowing they had already qualified before the match started, this was still a disappointing effort. One bonus was a goal for Memphis Depay, who had struggled to make an impact in the tournament so far. The final results in other groups went their way as it originally looked likely that they would face England in this round.

Romania vs Netherlands | Match Facts

  • These sides have met 13 times previously, with Romania just winning once.
  • Their last competitive matches were in a qualifying group for the 2014 World Cup. The Netherlands won both matches, 4-0 at home and 4-1 away.
  • The Netherlands have won their last four matches against Romania with an aggregate score of 13-1.

Romania vs Netherlands | Current form

  • Romania’s loss to Belgium in these Euros is their only defeat from their last 15 competitive matches (W8, D6, L1).
  • The defeat to Austria was the second defeat in their last 10 matches for the Netherlands, a run which includes a 6-0 and three 4-0 victories.

Score prediction: Romania 0-2 Netherlands

AUSTRIA vs TURKEY (02/07/24)

Kick-off 19:00 GMT, Leipzig Stadium, Leipzig

Austria vs Turkey | Betting predictions

Austria have been the surprise package of the group stage. Despite losing their opener 1-0 against France, successive wins over Poland the Netherlands, scoring three times in both games, was enough to see them top the group. They came into the Euros in good form and were particularly impressive in the victory over the Netherlands. They started on the front foot and took the game to the Dutch throughout, finding the resolve to score the decisive goal despite being pegged back twice previously. Ralf Rangnick will be without Wolfsburg winger Patrick Wimmer for this match as he serves a one-match suspension after picking up two yellow cards.

A 94th-minute goal confirmed Turkey’s passage to the round of 16 in a hot-tempered 2-1 victory over the Czech Republic, who were eliminated. There were 18 cards shown during or after the match, including several to those off the pitch at the time, a record number for a European Championship fixture. In a match the Czech’s had to win, they got off to an awful start with Antonín Barák being dismissed after just 20 minutes after receiving a second yellow card. Turkey still struggled to create chances after that until  Hakan Çalhanoğlu opened the scoring early in the second half. Despite the Czech’s drawing level, that late Turkish winner sealed the outcome. However, both Çalhanoğlu and Samet Akaydin will be forced to sit this match out with one-match suspensions.

GERMANY vs SCOTLAND (14/06/24)

Germany vs Scotland | Betting predictions

Host nation Germany get Euro 2024 underway against Scotland at the Allianz Arena in Munich. There can be no complacency from the Germans after exiting the 2022 World Cup at the group stage, and much will be expected of youngsters Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz.

This is only the fourth time Scotland have qualified for the Euro finals and they have yet to make it through to the knockout stages. An impressive qualifying campaign has been followed by a disappointing run in friendly matches since.

Germany vs Scotland Preview | Match facts

  • Germany have won three times, with one match drawn.
  • Both teams have scored in all four of those matches.

Germany vs Scotland | Current form

  • Germany beat both France and the Netherlands in friendly matches in March, and came from behind to beat Greece 2-1 last week.

HUNGARY vs SWITZERLAND (15/06/24)

Kick-off 13:00 GMT, Cologne Stadium, Cologne.

Hungary vs Switzerland | Betting predictions

Both these sides will be hopeful of making the knockout stage after being drawn in a group which seems quite evenly matched, aside from favourites Germany.

Hungary will go into this tournament with some confidence after topping their qualifying group and after drawing with both France and Germany in the last Euros, despite being drawn in the hardest group back then.

Switzerland only won four matches in what was a weak qualifying group to reach the Euro finals. They could only manage home draws against Belarus and Kosovo during the qualifying campaign.

Hungary vs Switzerland Preview | Match facts

  • These sides last met in the qualifying groups for the 2018 World Cup. Switzerland won both of those matches, 5-2 at home and 3-2 away.
  • This is the third successive time Hungary have qualified for the Euro finals after a gap of 44 years.
  • Switzerland beat France on penalties in the Round of 16 in Euro 2020, before losing on penalties to Spain in the quarter-finals.

Hungary vs Switzerland | Current form

  • Hungary last lost a competitive match in September 2022 (against Italy). They were unbeaten in their eight qualifying matches since then.
  • Switzerland have only won twice in their last eight competitive matches, with both of those victories coming against Andorra.

Score prediction: Hungary 1-0 Switzerland

SPAIN vs CROATIA (15/06/24)

Kick-off 16:00 GMT, Olympiastadion, Berlin.

Spain vs Croatia | Betting predictions

Spain are looking to rekindle the purple patch they had between 2008 and 2012, when they won two European Championship titles and the 2010 World Cup. However, the current Nations League champions have failed to reach the final in either of those tournaments since.

Despite being a force to be reckoned with in recent World Cup campaigns, Croatia have been unable to transfer that form into the Euros. Since competing as an independent nation, they are yet to progress beyond the quarter-finals. Does 38-year-old Luka Modrić have one more big tournament in him?

Spain vs Croatia Preview | Match facts

  • Spain beat Croatia in the Nations League final last June, winning 5-4 on penalties after the match was drawn 0-0.
  • In that final, Spain had 21 attempts at goal, of which only one was on target (8 off target and 12 blocked).
  • They also met in the Round of 16 at Euro 2020, with Spain winning 5-3 after extra-time.

Spain vs Croatia | Current form

  • Since surprisingly losing to Scotland in March last year, Spain have won their subsequent eight competitive matches.
  • Croatia lost two of their final four Euro qualifying matches, only managing wins against the bottom two sides in their group. However, they have won their previous three friendly matches, including a 2-1 win in Portugal last week.

Score prediction: Spain 2-1 Croatia

ITALY vs ALBANIA (15/06/24)

Kick-off 19:00 GMT, BVB Stadion, Dortmund.

Italy vs Albania | Betting predictions

Italy begin the defence of their trophy against group minnows Albania. However, after only narrowly progressing from their qualifying group, the Italians will be looking for a positive start to the finals.

Albania surprised many by winning their qualifying group, which included the likes of Poland and the Czech Republic. They are more than capable of causing a few headaches for the other sides in this strong group.

Italy vs Albania Preview | Match facts

  • These teams have only met four times before, with Italy winning each time.
  • Two were in the 2018 World Cup qualifying groups, whilst the other two were friendly matches.
  • Albania only conceded four goals in their eight Euro qualifying group matches, one in each of their away ties.

Italy vs Albania | Current form

  • Italy needed a point against Ukraine in their last group match to qualify and avoid the playoffs. The match finished 0-0.
  • Albania could only draw their last two group matches against Moldova and the Faroe Islands and subsequently lost friendlies against Chile and Sweden.

Score prediction: Italy 2-0 Albania

POLAND vs NETHERLANDS (16/06/24)

Kick-off 13:00 GMT, Volksparkstadion, Hamburg

Poland vs Netherlands | Betting predictions

Poland had to take the long route in qualifying for these finals after they could only finish third in their qualifying group. However, this meant a second chance through the play-offs, where they were ultimately victorious 5-4 on penalties against Wales after a scoreless 120 minutes, to finally grab their spot in Germany.

After winning the Euros in 1988 and reaching the semi-finals in three of the four subsequent tournaments, the Netherlands have since failed to make a significant impact in the top European tournament. They were drawn against France in the qualifying groups for this tournament and lost both games. They now find themselves in the same group as Les Bleus again and, given those results, they will need to get something from this match.

Poland vs Netherlands | Match Facts

  • The Netherlands are unbeaten in the last nine competitive matches between these sides, winning five and drawing four.
  • The last time Poland beat the Netherlands was in 1979.
  • Poland qualified for the Euro finals for the first time in 2008 and have made it through to the finals in each tournament since. They have only qualified from the group stage once in that time.

Poland vs Netherlands | Current form

  • In Poland’s play-off victory over Wales, they failed to manage a single shot on target in the entire 120 minutes of play before the penalty shootout. However, Poland won both their friendly matches at the start of June, 3-1 against Ukraine and 2-1 against Turkey.
  • The Netherlands lost in the semi-finals of the Nations League last year and were also beaten 2-1 by host nation Germany in a friendly in late March. They completed their warm-up matches with successive 4-0 victories over Canada and Iceland.

Score prediction: Poland 0-2 Netherlands

SLOVENIA vs DENMARK (16/06/24)

Kick-off 16:00 GMT, Stuttgart Arena, Stuttgart

Slovenia vs Denmark | Betting predictions

This is only the second time Slovenia have reached the Euro finals when competing as an independent nation. The previous time was back in 2000, when they were eliminated at the group stage without winning a game. In their only two World Cup appearances, they have also failed to progress to the knockout stages.

Denmark were surprise winners of this tournament in 1992, especially as they didn’t originally qualify! They only gained their place in the finals after Yugoslavia were disqualified from playing in the tournament. Although they have not matched that performance since, they did reach the semi-final last time before losing out to England after extra-time.

Slovenia vs Denmark Preview | Match Facts

  • These sides both progressed from the same qualifying group, each finishing with 22 points.
  • Denmark finished top based on their head-to-head record. The Danes won 2-1 at home, with a 1-1 draw in the away fixture.
  • That was the first time these sides had met in a competitive fixture since 1997. Slovenia have yet to beat Denmark in any of their six meetings.

Slovenia vs Denmark | Current form

  • Slovenia will be encouraged by a 2-0 friendly victory over a full-strength Portugal side in March. In subsequent home friendlies, they beat Armenia and drew with Bulgaria.
  • Rasmus Højlund is likely to be a pivotal player for Denmark after the striker’s inconsistent first season at Manchester United. He scored seven goals in qualifying. Denmark defeated both Sweden and Norway in friendly matches last week.

Score prediction: Slovenia 1-1 Denmark

SERBIA vs ENGLAND (16/06/24)

Kick-off 19:00 GMT, Arena AufSchalke, Gelsenkirchen

Serbia vs England | Betting predictions

This is the first time since competing as Serbia that the national team has reached the Euro finals. However, they were not convincing in qualifying, losing home and away to group winners Hungary.

England were undefeated in winning their group and go into this tournament as favourites to take the trophy. However, they have never won the Euros. Last time, with the final taking place on home turf at Wembley, the Three Lions were defeated by Italy after a penalty shootout in the decisive match.

Serbia vs England Preview | Match Facts

  • These sides have only met once before, in a friendly back in 2003. England won 2-1.
  • England’s three group matches in the Euro 2020 finals were cagey affairs. There were two 1-0 victories and a goalless draw.
  • Serbia will be reliant on the goal threat of Aleksandar Mitrović. He has been a regular scorer this season for Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League, but can he transfer that form to this level of competition?

Serbia vs England | Current form

  • The last time Serbia won what could be considered a testing competitive match was back in September 2022, when they beat Sweden 4-1 at home and Norway 2-0 away in the Nations League. They defeated Sweden 3-0 away from home in their last warm-up match.
  • England rounded off their qualifying campaign with a disappointing 1-1 draw at to North Macedonia, and in friendlies since have lost to Brazil and required a last-minute equaliser to salvage a draw against Belgium. In their last friendly match, England were defeated 1-0 by Iceland at Wembley.

Score prediction: Serbia 0-2 England

ROMANIA vs UKRAINE (17/06/24)

Kick-off 13:00 GMT, Fußball Arena München, Munich

Romania vs Ukraine | Betting predictions

With Belgium strong favourites to win Group E, this match is likely to be pivotal in the race to finish runners-up. Romania were unbeaten when topping their qualifying group, winning six and drawing four of their 10 matches. They defeated Switzerland 1-0 in the final match to ensure they took the top position.

Ukraine had to take the circuitous route via the playoffs to reach these finals after Italy pipped them for second spot in their group. Ukraine defeated both Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland in the playoffs, winning each match by a score of 2-1.

Romania vs Ukraine | Match Facts

  • Romania have only qualified for the European Championship finals five times previously. They have never progressed beyond the quarter-finals.
  • These sides have met six times before, all in friendly matches. The overall results are even, two wins for each team and two draws.
  • Ukraine needed an 84th-minute winner from Chelsea star Mykhailo Mudryk to see off Iceland in the playoff final.

Romania vs Ukraine | Current form

  • Following their qualification for these finals, Romania failed to win any of their four subsequent friendly matches, including a goalless draw at home to Liechtenstein last time out.
  • Ukraine held host nation Germany to a goalless draw in a friendly match in Nuremberg at the start of June. Since then they have lost 3-1 in Poland and won 4-0 in Moldova.

Score prediction: Romania 2-1 Ukraine

BELGIUM vs SLOVAKIA (17/06/24)

Kick-off 16:00 GMT, Frankfurt Arena, Frankfurt

Belgium vs Slovakia | Betting predictions

Since finishing runners-up in the 1980 Euros, Belgium have only qualified for the finals four times prior to this year. They have not progressed beyond the quarter-finals in any of those subsequent appearances, despite being strongly fancied to challenge for the title last time around.

Slovakia have qualified for their third successive Euro finals, though they did lose both games to group winners Portugal in doing so. They exceeded expectations after being seeded in Pot 5 in the qualifying group draw, winning seven and drawing one of their other eight matches.

Belgium vs Slovakia Preview | Match Facts

  • Belgium were unbeaten in their qualifying group, winning six and drawing two of their eight matches. Romelu Lukaku scored 14 goals in those eight matches.
  • In both their previous two Euro final appearances, Slovakia have finished in third position in their group.
  • The last time these sides met was in a friendly 11 years ago, with a last-minute winner giving Belgium a 2-1 victory.

Belgium vs Slovakia | Current form

  • Belgium drew 2-2 with England in a friendly at Wembley in March. Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans scored both their goals in that match.
  • Slovakia had disappointing results when losing to Austria and drawing with Norway in their first two friendlies after qualifying, although they comprehensively beat Wales 4-0 in their final warm-up match.

Score prediction: Belgium 3-0 Slovakia

AUSTRIA vs FRANCE (17/06/24)

Kick-off 19:00 GMT, Düsseldorf Arena, Düsseldorf

Austria vs France | Betting predictions

Austria have only progressed beyond the group stage once at a major tournament since 1982. That was in Euro 2020, when they lost after extra time in the round of 16 to the eventual tournament champions, Italy. However, they only finished one point behind Belgium in qualifying in second place for this tournament.

France won seven of their eight qualifying matches, only dropping points in a 2-2 draw against Greece in the last match, when qualification was already assured. They have won this tournament twice before, and were runners-up as hosts in 2016. They also won the World Cup in 2018 and only lost on penalties in the 2022 final after a thrilling 3-3 draw with Argentina.

Austria vs France Preview | Match Facts

  • Kylian Mbappé scored nine goals for France in the qualifying games and also scored a hat-trick in the 2022 World Cup final, only the second player ever to achieve that feat.
  • Austria were unbeaten in their away matches in the qualifying group, winning three and drawing 1-1 in Belgium.
  • These sides met twice in the Nations League in 2022. France won 2-0 at home, whilst the match in Austria ended 1-1.

Austria vs France | Current form

  • Austria won their first four matches after qualifying, including wins over Germany (2-0), Turkey (6-1) and Serbia (2-1). They then held Switzerland to a 1-1 draw in St. Gallen in their last match.
  • A 2-0 friendly defeat against Germany in March will have given the French something to think about, as will a goalless draw at home to Canada last week, but they go into the Euros as second favourites to take the title.

Score prediction: Austria 1-2 France

TURKEY vs GEORGIA (18/06/24)

Kick-off 16:00 GMT, BVB Stadion, Dortmund

Turkey vs Georgia | Betting predictions

After losing to a last-minute goal against Germany in the Euro semi-finals of 2008, Turkey have not progressed beyond the group stage since. They will not want a repeat of Euro 2020, when they lost all three group games by a margin of two goals or more.

Georgia beat Greece in the playoffs to take their place at these finals, winning 4-2 on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes. This is the first time they have ever reached the finals of a major football tournament.

Turkey vs Georgia Preview | Match Facts

  • Turkey topped their qualifying group, finishing ahead of both Croatia and Wales. They were unbeaten in their four away group-stage matches, winning three and drawing one.
  • Georgia only qualified for the playoff rounds courtesy of their placing in the Nations League. In their qualifying group, they could only finish fourth of the five teams, with their only victories coming against the bottom team, Cyprus.
  • These sides last met in a friendly 12 years ago, with Turkey winning 3-1 in a match played in Austria.

Turkey vs Georgia | Current form

  • Turkey have lost three of their four friendly matches since qualifying, including a 6-1 defeat against Austria. However, they did hold Italy to a goalless draw at the start of June.
  • Georgia have played just once since that victory in the playoff final, winning 3-1 in Montenegro last week.

Score prediction: Turkey 2-0 Georgia

PORTUGAL vs CZECH REPUBLIC (18/06/24)

Kick-off 19:00 GMT, Leipzig Stadium, Leipzig

Portugal vs Czech Republic | Betting predictions

Portugal have had a good record in this tournament since the start of the century. Aside from becoming champions in 2016, they were also defeated finalists in 2004 and reached the semi-finals in both 2000 and 2012. They were flawless in their qualifying group, winning all 10 matches with a goal aggregate of 36-2.

The Czech Republic were less convincing in qualifying, finishing second to Albania in their group. Since 1996, they have alternated in each final tournament between progressing for the knockout rounds and being eliminated at the group stage. If that sequence continues, they will be heading home from Germany early.

Portugal vs Czech Republic Preview | Match Facts

  • In the qualifying group, Cristiano Ronaldo scored 10 goals and Bruno Fernandes scored six to ensure they qualified with ease. Ronaldo also scored twice in their final warm-up match last week, which ended as a 3-0 win over the Republic of Ireland.
  • At 39 years of age, Cristiano Ronaldo is competing in his sixth Euros finals. However, he is not the oldest member of the Portuguese squad, with 41-year-old defender Pepe also making the final 26.
  • These sides met twice in the Nations League in 2022. Portugal won 2-0 at home and 4-0 away. They have also met twice before in the Euros this century: in 2008 Portugal won 3-1 when drawn in the same group, and in 2012 they were victorious by a score of 1-0 in the quarter-finals.

Portugal vs Czech Republic | Current form

  • Portugal have had mixed results in their friendlies in June, beating Finland and the Republic of Ireland but losing to Croatia.
  • Since qualifying, the Czechs have played four and won four. The pick of those victories was a 2-1 win in Oslo against Norway in late March.

Score prediction: Portugal 3-1 Czech Rep

CROATIA vs ALBANIA (19/06/24)

Kick-off 13:00 GMT, Volksparkstadion, Hamburg

Croatia vs Albania | Betting predictions

With both teams losing their opening match, this becomes a must-win game for both sides if they are to have a realistic chance of progressing. Croatia were outplayed by a fluent Spanish side in their opener, and with a 3-0 half-time deficit, the match was already over as a contest by then. Croatia did think they had scored a consolation goal after converting the rebound following a second-half penalty, which was well saved by Simón in the Spanish goal; however, that was chalked off for encroachment. Croatia did have a slight edge in the possession statistics and more attempts on goal than the Spanish, so there is some encouragement for them coming into this match.

Albania have already created a little bit of history in their first match, as the goal scored by Nedim Bajrami after just 23 seconds is the fastest ever in a Euro finals tournament. That goal broke the record previously held by Dmitri Kirichenko, who scored after 67 seconds for Russia against Greece in Euro 2004. However, despite that quick-fire start, Albania could not hold onto their lead and were 2-1 down by the 16th minute. The scoring ended there, although Italy had several more chances to increase the winning margin. With Albania playing Spain in their final match, progression to the knockout rounds from this tough group looks very unlikely.

Croatia vs Albania | Match Facts

  • These sides have never previously met.
  • Croatia coach Zlatko Dalic said his side “were not aggressive enough” in the defeat to Spain.
  • In each of these sides’ opening matches, there were three goals scored in the first half and none in the second half.

Croatia vs Albania | Current form

  • The loss to Spain was Croatia’s first defeat since a stuttering finish to their qualifying campaign. Luka Modrić and Mateo Kovačić were both taken off with 25 minutes left in that opening defeat, presumably to save their legs for this crucial game.
  • Albania came into the Euros in mixed form, drawing with Moldova and the Faroe Islands in their last two qualifying matches and then losing to Chile and Sweden in friendlies. They did have friendly wins over Liechtenstein and Azerbaijan in their final two warm-up matches, and will need to find more of an attacking threat as, following their 23-second goal against Italy, their only other shot on target was in the final minutes of the match.

Score prediction: Croatia 2-1 Albania

GERMANY vs HUNGARY (19/06/24)

Kick-off 16:00 GMT, Stuttgart Arena, Stuttgart

Germany vs Hungary | Betting predictions

Host nation Germany got off to a flying start with a 5-1 demolition of Scotland. With Germany already leading 2-0 after 19 minutes, a third goal from the penalty spot just before half-time, in an incident which saw Scotland reduced to 10 men, effectively sealed the game for Julian Nagelsmann’s side. However, with Scotland managing only one shot off target all match (their goal came from an own goal), the result was never really in doubt once Germany opened the scoring. A win here would guarantee qualification from the group, and if they can repeat their opening day performance, Hungary will be hard pressed to stop them.

Hungary had been in good form coming into the Euros, but found themselves 2-0 down at the break against Switzerland in their opening match after a poor first-half showing. An improved second-half performance saw them reduce the deficit to 2-1, but an injury time goal for the Swiss ended their fightback. With four points possibly being enough to qualify for the knockout rounds, Hungary must find a way to take at least a point off of an assured German side.

Germany vs Hungary Preview | Match Facts

  • These sides met in the Nations League in 2022. Hungary drew the home match 1-1 before winning 1-0 in Germany.
  • They also faced each other in the group stage of the Euro 2020 finals. That match ended in a 2-2 draw, with the Hungarians twice being pegged back after going ahead.
  • Prior to that, the last time these sides met in a competitive match was in the 1954 World Cup final, in which West Germany were victorious 3-2.

Germany vs Hungary | Current form

  • The opening day victory, along with wins in friendlies over both France and Netherlands in March, sees the German side coming into this match brimming with confidence and with raucous home support to back them.
  • Hungary went into their opening match having lost just one of their last 16 matches but were unable to recover after a slow start against the Swiss. They will need to build on their second-half performance to make any impression against the Germans.

Score prediction: Germany 3-1 Hungary

SCOTLAND vs SWITZERLAND (19/06/24)

Scotland vs Switzerland | Betting predictions

Scotland had set themselves a pre-tournament target of four points in the group stage to progress to the knockout round, but their 5-1 loss to Germany in their opening match has put a dent in that ambition. Although they would have expected to gain those points from their other matches, it was the comprehensive manner of that defeat that will have the Scottish fans worried. They didn’t manage a single shot on target all match, and the red card shown to defender Ryan Porteous means that he will be suspended for their next two matches.

Meanwhile, Switzerland got their campaign off to a winning start with a 3-1 victory over Hungary. They dominated the opening 45 minutes and, although an improved Hungary got back into the match in the second half, an injury time goal sealed the victory. The opening goal was scored by Kwadwo Duah, who was winning only his second cap for his national team. Switzerland boss Murat Yakin will also be delighted to see Breel Embolo on the scoresheet, as the Monaco striker had not played for Switzerland since the 2022 World Cup following a series of injuries.

Scotland vs Switzerland Preview | Match Facts

  • This is the first time these sides have met since Switzerland defeated Scotland 3-1 in a friendly match at Hampden Park in 2006.
  • Their last competitive fixture was in the group stage of Euro 1996. Scotland won 1-0, but both teams exited the competition at that stage.
  • A win for Switzerland would guarantee that they make the playoff rounds and that Scotland depart the tournament at the first hurdle.

Scotland vs Switzerland | Current form

  • Scotland’s superb form in the qualifying group to reach these finals has fast become a distant memory. Since then, they have won just once in 10 matches, and that was against minnows Gibraltar. They need to find some answers quickly to address this run if they are to have any chance of progressing further.
  • Switzerland have lost just one of their 15 matches since exiting the 2022 World Cup. They have won seven matches and drawn the other seven.

Score prediction: Scotland 1-2 Switzerland

SLOVENIA vs SERBIA (20/06/24)

Kick-off 13:00 GMT, Fußball Arena München, Munich

Slovenia vs Serbia | Betting predictions

Slovenia came from behind to take a deserved point in a 1-1 draw against Denmark in their opening match. Their manager, Matjaž Kek, said: “We showed them too much respect in the first half”, highlighting the fact that many of his players had never played in such a big competition before. If they can start this match in the same manner as they finished that fixture, Slovenia will be more than a match for Serbia. Star striker Benjamin Šeško hit the post just before the equaliser, and the RB Leipzig marksman will be looking to get on the scoresheet here.

Despite losing 1-0 to England in their opener, Serbia made the pre-tournament favourites work hard for their victory. Despite going behind after just 13 minutes, Serbia took advantage of England sitting back in the second half to create the better chances of the two teams. Captain Aleksandar Mitrović shot wide from Serbia’s best chance, although he had a quiet game in general before being substituted on the hour mark. They will need to take at least a point from this game to go into the final round of matches with any hope of qualifying.

Slovenia vs Serbia | Match Facts

  • These sides met in the Nations League in 2022. Serbia won the home match 4-1, with the game in Slovenia finishing 2-2.
  • Aleksandar Mitrović scored in both of those matches.
  • Slovenia have never progressed beyond the group stage in the finals of a major tournament.

Slovenia vs Serbia | Current form

  • Since the 4-1 defeat to Serbia in 2022, Slovenia have lost just two of their following 22 matches. They have scored in each of their previous 13 internationals in all competitions.
  • In Serbia’s last 11 matches, each of their six defeats has been directly followed by a draw or a victory. They last lost successive matches over two years ago.

Score prediction: Slovenia 1-1 Serbia

DENMARK vs ENGLAND (20/06/24)

Kick-off 16:00 GMT, Frankfurt Arena, Frankfurt

Denmark vs England | Betting predictions

Christian Eriksen completed a fairytale comeback in the Euros, after he collapsed on the pitch in the previous tournament, as he opened the scoring for Denmark after 17 minutes against Slovenia. However, despite a strong first-half performance, the Danes were unable to build on that lead, and their first group game ended in a 1-1 draw.

England also started their match against Serbia on the front foot and took a deserved 1-0 lead through Jude Bellingham within the first 15  minutes. However, the scoring ended there, as England sat back and let the Serbs back into the match (although the latter were unable to find an equaliser). Harry Kane could have scored in the second half with his only attempt on goal in the match but was thwarted by a superb save from keeper Predrag Rajković, who diverted his powerful header onto the bar. To justify their pre-tournament billing as favourites, England will need to improve on this performance.

Denmark vs England Preview | Match Facts

  • These sides last met in the semi-final of Euro 2020. England won by a scoreline of 2-1 after Harry Kane netted an extra-time winner.
  • They previously met in the Nations League in 2020. The match in Copenhagen was goalless, and the Danes won 1-0 at Wembley.
  • Nine of the Danish squad play their club football in England (three for Brentford, two each for Man Utd and Leicester, and one each for Crystal Palace and Tottenham).

Denmark vs England | Current form

  • Denmark have lost just one of their last 13 matches. They won their final three friendlies heading into this tournament, defeating the Faroe Islands, Sweden and Norway.
  • England last lost a competitive match in the 2022 World Cup quarter-finals against France, although their recent friendly form was indifferent leading up to these finals and included a 1-0 home loss to Iceland.

Score prediction: Denmark 1-2 England

SPAIN vs ITALY (20/06/24)

Kick-off 19:00 GMT, Arena AufSchalke, Gelsenkirchen

Spain vs Italy | Betting predictions

With both sides winning their opening match, a positive result for either team is likely to be decisive in determining the group winner. Spain were comfortable 3-0 winners in their opening match against Croatia, reaching that score by half-time and coasting through the second half. Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal, at 16 years and 338 days of age, made history by becoming the youngest player to play in the Euro finals and also claimed an assist with the cross for Spain’s third goal.

Italy were momentarily shellshocked when they conceded after just 23 seconds against Albania in their opening match. However, 16 minutes later, they had recovered to take a 2-1 lead. They comfortably saw out the rest of the match without further alarm to set up this mouthwatering clash against La Roja.

Spain vs Italy Preview | Match Facts

  • This will be the fifth successive European Championship finals in which Spain have played Italy.
  • In Euro 2020, Italy beat Spain on penalties in the semi-final and, in Euro 2016, Italy won 2-0 in a round of 16 match. In Euro 2012, they met in the final, with Spain decisive 4-0 winners, whilst Spain were victorious on penalties in a quarter-final match in Euro 2008.
  • Spain have beaten Italy in the last two editions of the Nations League, both times by a score of 2-1.

Spain vs Italy | Current form

  • That win over Croatia was Spain’s ninth successive victory in competitive matches, after their shock defeat to Scotland in March of 2023.
  • In the 12 matches since their Nations League defeat to Spain, Italy have won eight, drawn three and just lost once.

Score prediction: Spain 2-1 Italy

SLOVAKIA vs UKRAINE (21/06/24)

Kick-off 13:00 GMT, Düsseldorf Arena, Düsseldorf

Slovakia vs Ukraine | Betting predictions

Slovakia caused the first major upset of Euro 2024 when they defeated Belgium 1-0 in their opening match. The only goal in that match came after seven minutes, following a defensive mistake by Manchester City’s Jeremy Doku. Despite Belgium creating several chances, as well as having two ‘goals’ from Romelu Lukaku chalked off by VAR, Slovakia held on for a famous victory. Another victory here would ensure Slovakia qualify for the knockout rounds for the second time in the last three Euros.

Ukraine need to bounce back quickly after they were comprehensively beaten by Romania in their opening match. Once they conceded the opening goal, Ukraine never looked like getting back into the match and didn’t register their first shot on target until the 77th minute. With their final match coming against Belgium, a win here looks vital if Ukraine are to have any chance of reaching the last 16.

Slovakia vs Ukraine | Match Facts

  • These sides last met in the Nations League in 2018, with Slovakia winning 4-1.
  • That was the only time in the eight previous occasions that they have met where the teams were separated by more than one goal.
  • They were also paired in the same Euro 2016 qualifying group. Slovakia won 1-0 in Ukraine, whilst the reverse fixture was goalless.

Slovakia vs Ukraine | Current form

  • The victory over Belgium followed successive 4-0 friendly wins over San Marino and Wales for Slovakia. They have only lost three of their last 18 matches.
  • Ukraine played well in their qualifying group, battling with Italy all the way to the final game for second place until eventually progressing through the playoffs. They since held hosts Germany to a 0-0 draw in a friendly match in Nürnberg, but the manner of their tame loss to Romania will be a concern for manager Serhiy Rebrov.

Score prediction: Slovakia 2-1 Ukraine

POLAND vs AUSTRIA (21/06/24)

Kick-off 16:00 GMT, Olympiastadion, Berlin

Poland vs Austria | Betting predictions

This is a crucial match for both sides after each of them lost their opening fixture. Poland were dealt a blow before their loss to the Netherlands, as a thigh injury forced their captain and all-time top scorer, Robert Lewandowski, to watch from the bench. The Barcelona striker will hope to be able to play a part in this match. Despite his absence, Poland took an early lead, only to concede the decisive goal seven minutes from full time. Overall, it was a decent performance against one of the tournament’s fancied sides.

Austria will also be pleased with their performance after losing to a solitary goal against a strongly fancied French side, as they pushed their illustrious opponents all the way until the final whistle. Ultimately, it was an own goal that decided the match, although Austria had a great chance of their own just before that pivotal moment; however, Christoph Baumgartner’s close range effort was saved by the legs of the French goalkeeper, Mike Maignan.

Poland vs Austria Preview | Match Facts

  • These sides were drawn together in the Euro 2020 qualifying groups. Poland won 1-0 in Austria, whilst the match in Warsaw finished goalless.
  • Austria have yet to beat Poland in a competitive match from five attempts.
  • They met in the group stage of the Euro 2008 finals. That match finished 1-1, which was the only point won by either side, and they were both eliminated.

Poland vs Austria | Current form

  • Poland won their final two friendly matches in the run-up to this tournament, beating both Ukraine (3-1) and Turkey (2-1).
  • Prior to their opening match defeat, Austria had lost just one of their previous 16 matches and were in impressive form coming into this tournament.

Score prediction: Poland 1-1 Austria

NETHERLANDS vs FRANCE (21/06/24)

Kick-off 19:00 GMT, Leipzig Stadium, Leipzig

Netherlands vs France | Betting predictions

Netherlands squeezed past Poland in their opening game, with an 83rd-minute winner from Burnley striker Wout Weghorst sealing a 2-1 victory. He had only been on the pitch for a couple of minutes prior to that, but wasteful finishing from the Netherlands strikers had kept the scoreline tight. They had a total of 21 shots during the match, including 14 from inside the box, but only managed four on target. Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo scored their first goal, and he looked the most dangerous player throughout the match.

Austria proved a hard nut for France to crack as an own-goal from Austrian centre-back Max Wöber was all that separated the teams. That goal was created by a driving run and cross from Kylian Mbappé, although the French captain subsequently broke his nose in an accidental clash with Kevin Danso’s shoulder. He will be able to play with a mask to protect the injury but, at the time of writing, it’s not certain he will be available for this game.

Netherlands vs France Preview | Match Facts

  • They were also drawn together in the qualifying groups for these finals. France won 4-0 at home and 2-1 away, eventually finishing four points above the Netherlands in the final standings. Kylian Mbappé scored twice in each of those matches.
  • The French have won seven of their previous eight meetings with the Netherlands.
  • The last nine meetings between these sides have produced a positive result, with the last stalemate being a goalless draw back in 2004.

Netherlands vs France | Current form

  • The Netherlands came into this tournament with three 4-0 victories (against Scotland, Canada and Iceland) sandwiching a 2-1 defeat against Germany.
  • France have also lost two friendlies to Germany, their only defeats since losing on penalties to Argentina in the 2022 World Cup final.

Score prediction: Netherlands 2-2 France

GEORGIA vs CZECH REPUBLIC (22/06/24)

Kick-off 13:00 GMT, Volksparkstadion, Hamburg

Georgia vs Czech Republic | Betting predictions

Despite losing their opening match, Georgia can be encouraged, as they made Turkey fight all the way to the final whistle in a thrilling encounter. Shrugging off their tag as the lowest-ranked team taking part, Georgia were more than a match for their opponents and hit the woodwork twice in the second half as they searched for an equaliser. The final scoreline flattered the Turks, as their third goal came in the 97th-minute, with the Georgian goal left unguarded as their keeper was still up the pitch following an attacking corner.

The Czech Republic put up a resolute defensive display against Portugal and thought they had done enough to hold out for a draw, before eventually being undone by a 92nd-minute goal. Portugal dominated the shots, possession and passing statistics, and had 13 corners compared to none for the Czechs, but found it hard to find a way through the stubborn back line. Neither side can afford to lose today’s match, but can the Czech Republic rediscover their attacking flair?

Georgia vs Czech Republic | Match Facts

  • This is the first ever meeting between these sides. They are also scheduled to meet in the Nations League later this year.
  • Georgia are the only nation in Germany making their first appearance in a Euros finals tournament.
  • The Czech Republic have reached the quarter-finals in two of the last three Euro tournaments.

Georgia vs Czech Republic | Current form

  • Georgia fans will be looking towards Khvicha Kvaratskhelia for goals, with the Napoli winger having scored 15 times in his 31 international appearances. However, he is now on a run of four matches without finding the net.
  • The defeat to Portugal was only the Czech Republic’s second defeat from their last 15 matches (W9, D4, L2).

Score prediction: Georgia 1-2 Czech Republic

TURKEY vs PORTUGAL (22/06/24)

Kick-off 16:00 GMT, BVB Stadion, Dortmund

Turkey vs Portugal | Betting predictions

This is the first time Turkey have started the Euro finals with a victory, after losing in each of their previous five attempts. Whilst the 3-1 victory over Georgia may look comfortable on paper, the match was anything but, as both teams matched each other for long periods. There was an early contender for the goal of the tournament from Arda Güler, with the 19-year-old producing a wonder strike for Turkey’s second goal.

Despite dominating possession, Portugal found it hard going to create chances against a resolute Czech defence before ultimately taking all three points in a 2-1 victory, courtesy of an injury time winner from Francisco Conceição. With both sides having won their opening games, a win here would seal top place in the group.

Turkey vs Portugal Preview | Match Facts

  • Portugal have won all six competitive matches they have played against Turkey. The only Turkey victories were in friendlies, both with a 3-1 scoreline, in 2012 and their first ever meeting in 1955.
  • They last met in 2022 in a World Cup qualification playoff semi-final. Portugal won 3-1 and ultimately progressed to the finals in Qatar.
  • These sides have met in the Euro finals on three previous occasions between 1996 and 2008. In each match, Turkey failed to score.

Turkey vs Portugal | Current form

  • Turkey have lost only 2 of their last 15 competitive matches (W10, D3, L2), although they did lose three of their four friendly matches coming into this tournament.
  • Portugal have won all 11 of their competitive matches since the 2022 World Cup.

Score prediction: Turkey 0-1 Portugal

BELGIUM vs ROMANIA (22/06/24)

Kick-off 19:00 GMT, Cologne Stadium, Cologne

Belgium vs Romania | Betting predictions

A shock single-goal defeat for Belgium against Slovakiamakes this a vital game for the Red Devils if they are to improve on their recent disappointing efforts in the Euros. Belgium created numerous chances and saw two Romelu Lukaku ‘goals’ ruled out by VAR, one for an offside and the second for a contentious handball in the build-up to the ball finding the net. This was the first time in nine matches that Belgium have failed to score in a Euro qualifying or finals match.

Romania will be buoyed by their opening 3-0 win over Ukraine. Despite being the underdogs, they ran out comfortable winners in what was only their second victory in their last 17 matches in Euro finals. Their approach to this game will be interesting—if Romania sit back looking for a point to build on their opening win, will they be able to keep a hurt Belgium at bay?

Belgium vs Romania Preview | Match Facts

  • These sides have only met twice before in competitive matches, in a 1994 World Cup qualifying group. Belgium won 1-0 in their home fixture, whilst Romania won 2-1 in Bucharest.
  • In their four friendly matches since then, Romania have won twice, Belgium once, and there was one draw.
  • On only one occasion in their previous 12 meetings, dating back to 1937, has the outcome of the match been decided by more than one goal.

Belgium vs Romania | Current form

  • Belgium were on a 14-match unbeaten run (W10, D4) since the 2022 World Cup until that defeat in their opening game.
  • Romania went unbeaten in topping their qualifying group, before going on a winless run in their four friendlies in the build-up to that excellent opening victory on Monday.

Score prediction: Belgium 3-1 Romania

SWITZERLAND vs GERMANY (23/06/24)

Kick-off 19:00 GMT, Frankfurt Arena, Frankfurt

Switzerland vs Germany | Betting predictions

After their exhilarating opening win over Hungary, Switzerland missed the chance to confirm qualification for the round of 16 when they were held to a draw by Scotland. The Scots took an early lead; however, 32-year old Xherdan Shaqiri capitalised on a defensive error to equalise. Switzerland then missed several good chances and had two efforts disallowed by narrow offside decisions. The four points they have already gained may be enough for them to progress, but if they can defeat the host nation, they will top the group.

After their dominant win on the opening day, Germany were made to work much harder as they defeated Hungary 2-0. That victory ensured that they were the first team to qualify for the knockout rounds, and if Germany avoid defeat in this match, they will be the group winners. 21-year-old Bayern Munich forward, Jamal Musiala, became the first player to score two goals in this tournament with his opener midway through the first half.

Switzerland vs Germany | Match Facts

  • These sides met in the Nations League in 2020. Both matches were drawn, 1-1 in Switzerland and 3-3 in Germany.
  • Those games were the first competitive matches between these nations since the 1966 World Cup.
  • Another draw here will ensure Switzerland join Germany in the round of 16.

Switzerland vs Germany | Current form

  • Switzerland have tasted defeat just once in their last 16 matches in all competitions—a 1-0 defeat in Romania seven months ago (W7, D8, L1).
  • Germany have followed friendly wins over France and the Netherlands in March with two victories here. They have scored two or more goals in nine of their last 11 matches.

Score prediction: Switzerland 1-2 Germany

SCOTLAND vs HUNGARY (23/06/24)

Kick-off 19:00 GMT, Stuttgart Arena, Stuttgart

Scotland vs Hungary | Betting predictions

Scotland recovered well from their opening day mauling by Germany to take a hard-earned point against Switzerland, ensuring that they can still qualify for the knockout rounds with a victory here. If they achieve that, it would be the first time Scotland have ever qualified from the group stage in a major tournament (they have failed to do so previously in eight World Cups and three European Championships). However, they face a defensive headache against Hungary, with Ryan Porteous serving the second game of his two-match suspension following his red card, and Kieran Tierney ruled out of the rest of the tournament after picking up a hamstring injury against Switzerland.

Although they are currently pointless, Hungary can count themselves unfortunate after playing well at times in both of their opening games. A victory would give them an outside chance of progressing as one of the best third-placed teams, although their goal difference may be one hurdle too many to overcome. After a sloppy defensive performance against the Swiss, Hungary upped their performance significantly in the defeat to Germany.

Scotland vs Hungary Preview | Match Facts

  • This is the first time these sides have met in a competitive match.
  • They have played nine friendly matches in total, but only four in the last 50 years. They have two wins each from those four most recent matches.
  •  If this match finishes in a draw, both sides will be eliminated.

Scotland vs Hungary | Current form

  • Scotland have won just one of their previous 11 matches—a 2-0 victory away to Gibraltar. They have conceded 27 goals across those 11 matches.
  • Prior to the start of this tournament, Hungary had only lost three of their previous 23 matches in all competitions.

Score prediction: Scotland 1-2 Hungary

ALBANIA vs SPAIN (24/06/24)

Kick-off 19:00 GMT, Düsseldorf Arena, Düsseldorf

Albania vs Spain | Betting predictions

Albania must win this match to have any chance of progressing to the next stage, and their cause may have been helped by Spain sealing their spot as group winners after just two matches. Will the Spanish use this match to give a few of their squad players some game time on the pitch? For the second match running, Albania let an early lead slip, this time against Croatia, and ultimately needed a 95th-minute equaliser to take a point in a thoroughly entertaining 2-2 draw.

Having already claimed the top-spot in Group B, Spain have the opportunity to give some of their players a rest in this match. They have been one of the most impressive sides in the tournament to date, defeating Croatia with ease and then beating Italy more convincingly than the final scoreline of 1-0 suggests. They have yet to concede a goal so far in these finals.

Albania vs Spain | Match Facts

  • These sides have met on eight previous occasions, with Spain having won each time.
  • They last faced each other in a friendly in 2022, which Spain won 2-1.
  • The goal aggregate over those matches is 31-3 in Spain’s favour, and includes a 9-0 win in the qualifying group for Euro 1992.

Albania vs Spain | Current form

  • Albania’s draw with Croatia broke a three-match losing run against teams ranked higher than themselves.
  • Spain are on a run of 10 successive victories in competitive matches, including a win on penalties in the 2023 Nations League final.

Score prediction: Albania 0-2 Spain

CROATIA vs ITALY (24/06/24)

Kick-off 19:00 GMT, Leipzig Stadium, Leipzig

Croatia vs Italy | Betting predictions

Croatia now face a stiff task in qualifying following the late equaliser conceded against Albania. It leaves them on just a solitary point coming into their final match against Italy and needing a victory to have any chance of progressing. Having never previously advanced beyond the quarter-finals in the Euros, this may be the last opportunity for some of their ageing squad to achieve that feat.

Defending champions Italy have looked off the pace so far in this tournament. They made hard work of beating Albania in the opening match and were second-best to Spain throughout Thursday’s match, with their only real goal threat coming in the last few minutes of the match. Whilst a point will be enough for the Blues to qualify, they must be wary of their poor record against a Croatia side who will be going flat out for victory.

Croatia vs Italy Preview | Match Facts

  • The last three meetings between these sides have all been in the European Championships, and all ended 1-1.
  • In the most recent two 1-1 draws, all the goals were scored in the first half.
  • In the eight meetings between these teams since 1992, Italy are yet to win (three Croatia wins and five drawn matches).

Croatia vs Italy | Current form

  • The loss to Spain was Croatia’s only defeat in their last eight matches.
  • Similarly, Italy’s only defeat in their last eight matches was against Spain.

Score prediction: Croatia 1-1 Italy

NETHERLANDS vs AUSTRIA (25/06/24)

Kick-off 16:00 GMT, Olympiastadion, Berlin

Netherlands vs Austria | Betting predictions

The Netherlands had to settle for a point against France in the first goalless draw of the finals, although that point should see them through, whatever the result of their final match is. They will feel slightly aggrieved, as a long shot from Xavi Simons found the back of the net only to be disallowed, as Denzel Dumfries, who was standing in an offside position, was deemed to have obstructed the French goalkeeper. A draw was probably the fairest result, as France also created several good chances, but their finishing was awry.

After pushing France all the way in their opening match defeat, Austria bounced back with a 3-1 victory against Poland in their second match to keep their qualification hopes alive. Given their impressive performances to date, and the fact the Austrians came into the tournament as one of the in-form teams, they will have high hopes of taking at least a point here in pursuit of a knockout place.

Netherlands vs Austria | Match Facts

  • These sides also met in the group stage of Euro 2020. The Netherlands won that match 2-0, although both teams subsequently qualified for the round of 16.
  • The Netherlands have won each of the last seven encounters between these sides.
  • Those seven matches have not lacked excitement, with at least two goals scored in every game, and 27 in total (20 for the Netherlands, seven for Austria).

Netherlands vs Austria | Current form

  • The Netherlands have won 10 of their last 13 matches in all competitions, only failing to beat France (twice) and Germany.
  • Austria have lost just two of their last 18 matches (W13, D3, L2).

Score prediction: Netherlands 1-2 Austria

FRANCE vs POLAND (25/06/24)

Kick-off 16:00 GMT, BVB Stadion, Dortmund

France vs Poland | Betting predictions

The point gained in the goalless draw against the Netherlands will probably be enough to see France progress to the playoff round, although they should confirm that with relative ease, as they sign-off the group stage by facing an already-eliminated Poland. However, France have only scored one goal in their opening two matches, and that was an own goal. Kylian Mbappé was ready, with his mask to protect his broken nose if needed, but he remained on the bench against the Dutch. The majority of the French chances in that game fell to Antoine Griezmann, who was unusually profligate.

Poland picked up the unwanted distinction of being the first nation to be eliminated from the finals after defeats in their opening two matches. Despite star striker Robert Lewandowski coming on for the last 30 minutes after missing the opening match through injury, his side will have nothing but pride to play for in this match. Even if Poland win and Austria lose, they will still finish bottom of the group based on the head-to-head record.

France vs Poland Preview | Match Facts

  • These sides met in the round of 16 in the 2022 World Cup. France won 3-1, before ultimately losing the final on penalties.
  • In that match France took a 3-0 lead courtesy of goals from Olivier Giroud and Kylian Mbappé (2), before Poland scored a 99th-minute consolation goal through Robert Lewandowski from the penalty spot.
  • The last time Poland beat France was in 1982. Since then, there have been four French wins and four drawn matches.

France vs Poland | Current form

  • The 2022 World Cup final was the last time the French lost a competitive match, albeit on penalties. Since then, their record is W8, D2.
  • Poland had been on an eight-match unbeaten run before their opening two losses here.

Score prediction: France 2-0 Poland

ENGLAND vs SLOVENIA (25/06/24)

Kick-off 19:00 GMT, Cologne Stadium, Cologne

England vs Slovenia | Betting predictions

England no longer find themselves as the tournament favourites after they followed an unconvincing 1-0 win over Serbia with a stuttering 1-1 draw against Denmark. Despite taking the lead within the first 20 minutes in both matches, England were unable to build on that early ascendency and ended up on the back foot for the large parts of both games. Despite scoring against Denmark, England captain Harry Kane looked off the pace for much of the game and was rarely involved in the action. A win for England here and they will top the group.

Slovenia come into this match in confident mood, having drawn both their opening matches 1-1. The disappointment for them was that they allowed Serbia a 95th-minute equaliser in their last game, whereas a victory would almost certainly have gained them a playoff place. Depending on the result in the other group match, a point here could be enough for second place, with goal difference and/or goals scored coming into play to decide the final placings.

England vs Slovenia | Match Facts

  • These sides have only met six times previously. England have won five times, with one match drawn.
  • The last two games were in the qualifying group for the 2018 World Cup. The match in Slovenia was goalless, whilst England needed a last minute winner form Harry Kane to win the home match 1-0.
  • Only one of England’s five victories was by more than one goal.

England vs Slovenia | Current form

  • England have not lost a competitive match since the 2022 World Cup (W7, D3).
  • Slovenia have only lost one of their last 14 matches in all competitions and are currently on a run of three successive 1-1 draws.

Score prediction: England 2-1 Slovenia

DENMARK vs SERBIA (25/06/24)

Kick-off 19:00 GMT, Fußball Arena München, Munich

Denmark vs Serbia | Betting predictions

Denmark go into this match knowing a victory will be enough to seal a playoff place following successive 1-1 draws. However, the Danes will feel slightly aggrieved to have not taken more than a point against England, where they had the upper hand for much of the match. Should Denmark and Slovenia both draw their final match, then second place in the group will be decided on goals scored. If that is equal, then the placings could be decided by the lower number of disciplinary points earned.

Serbia were on the brink of elimination before a 95th-minute equaliser from Luka Jović gave them a 1-1 draw against Slovenia. However, if they beat Denmark in this match, Serbia will have an excellent chance of reaching the round of 16. Aleksandar Mitrović is still looking to open his account in these finals after missing three big chances in Thursday’s match.

Denmark vs Serbia Preview | Match Facts

  • These sides have met just three times previously, with Denmark winning each time.
  • The most recent meeting was a friendly in 2022, in which Christian Eriksen scored the final goal in a 3-0 victory.
  • Serbia have only scored one goal in those three matches.

Denmark vs Serbia | Current form

  • Denmark have lost just one of their last 14 matches in all competitions (W9, D4, L1).
  • Serbia have won just two of their previous eight competitive matches, against Montenegro and Lithuania.

Score prediction: Denmark 2-1 Serbia

SLOVAKIA vs ROMANIA (26/06/24)

Kick-off 16:00 GMT, Frankfurt Arena, Frankfurt

Slovakia vs Romania | Betting predictions

Ivan Schranz scored his second goal in these finals as he netted the opener for Slovakia against Ukraine on Friday. However, his side could not hold on to that lead and eventually succumbed 2-1. This sets up a fascinating last round of matches, with all four teams currently on three points and a multitude of possible permutations if both the final matches end in draws. A point may be enough for both teams to qualify in this match, but they shouldn’t have that mindset, as it could also mean one of them finishes bottom.

Romania were unable to build on their opening victory and found themselves second best throughout the match in their 2-0 loss to Belgium. They went a goal down after just 73 seconds and rarely looked like they would equalise. However, if they regain the form that saw them brush aside Ukraine, a place in the round of 16 is a distinct possibility.

Slovakia vs Romania | Match Facts

  • Since Slovakia began competing as an independent nation, they have yet to beat Romania (four losses and four draws).
  • The last four meetings have all been friendly matches, three of which have ended in draws.
  • Their last competitive meeting was in a qualifying group for Euro 2000, with Romania winning 5-1 in Bratislava.

Slovakia vs Romania | Current form

  • The defeat to Ukraine was only Slovakia’s fourth loss in their last 19 matches (W10, D5, L4).
  • Romania’s form since qualifying for these finals continues to be poor, with just one win from six matches since topping their qualifying group.

Score prediction: Slovakia 2-1 Romania

UKRAINE vs BELGIUM (26/06/24)

Kick-off 16:00 GMT, Stuttgart Arena, Stuttgart

Ukraine vs Belgium | Betting predictions

Ukraine looked to be heading out of the Euros after losing their first match and going 1-0 down against Slovakia in their second; however, a rousing comeback to win 2-1 keeps them in contention for the knockout rounds. Anatoliy Trubin took over in goal from the dropped Andriy Lunin, and the Benfica shot stopper made some crucial saves to vindicate that decision, although Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk is still struggling to make an impact in this tournament.

Belgium also needed to bounce back from an opening defeat, and after opening the scoring in the first two minutes against Romania, they always looked comfortable. Kevin De Bruyne sealed the victory with a second goal, although striker Romelu Lukaku must be wondering what he has to do to score. He had his third ‘goal’ from the opening two matches disallowed, this time being caught offside by half a length of his boot. Will it be fourth time lucky here?

Ukraine vs Belgium Preview | Match Facts

  • Ukraine and Belgium have never previously met.
  • A win for either team would see the victors progress to the round of 16.
  • If both the final Group E matches are drawn, all four sides will finish on four points and tie-break criteria will be applied to determine the final rankings.

Ukraine vs Belgium | Current form

  • Of the seven matches Ukraine have played this year, they have won four, drawn one and lost two.
  • The defeat to Slovakia was Belgium’s first loss since the 2022 World Cup (W11, D4, L1).

Score prediction: Ukraine 1-3 Belgium

GEORGIA vs PORTUGAL (26/06/24)

Kick-off 19:00 GMT, Arena AufSchalke, Gelsenkirchen

Georgia vs Portugal | Betting predictions

Georgia, the lowest-ranked side in the tournament, kept their hopes of progressing alive with a point against the Czech Republic in a hard-fought 1-1 draw. Georgia took the lead via the penalty spot on the stroke of half time and, after the Czechs had equalised, could have snatched an unlikely victory had Saba Lobjanidze not fired it over the bar in the final moments after a three-on-one breakaway attack. That would have been harsh on the Czech side, who had 27 shots during the match, but Georgia must now find a way to defeat an in-form Portugal.

Successive wins over the Czech Republic and Turkey in their opening two matches have assured Portugal of top place in Group F. Manager Roberto Martinez has already suggested he will use this match to sharpen some members of his squad who have not had much game time to date, although his hand is forced into one change, with Rafael Leão suspended after picking up yellow cards in both matches so far. However, the Portuguese squad is strong, so don’t expect this to be a weak side. Diogo Jota only has around 30 minutes of match time so far, whilst João Félix has yet to come off the bench.

Georgia vs Portugal | Match Facts

  • These sides have only met once before, when playing a friendly match in 2008. Portugal won 2-0, with both goals coming in the first half.
  • Georges Mikautadze has scored both of Georgia’s goals so far in this tournament. They were both scored in the first half.
  • Portugal were the second highest-scoring team (5) in the tournament after the first two rounds of matches. Only the hosts, Germany, had scored more.

Georgia vs Portugal | Current form

  • Georgia have lost just two of their previous nine matches in all competitions.
  • Portugal have won every competitive match they have played (12) since exiting the 2022 World Cup.

Score prediction: Georgia 0-3 Portugal

CZECH REPUBLIC vs TURKEY (26/06/24)

Kick-off 19:00 GMT, Volksparkstadion, Hamburg

Czech Republic vs Turkey | Betting predictions

The Czech Republic remain in contention for the round of 16 after picking up a vital point against Georgia, although only the fine form of keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili prevented them from taking all three points. A win over Turkey in their final match should see the Czechs take the runners-up spot in the group. However, they will be concerned by the fact that Bayer Leverkusen striker Patrik Schick was forced off by injury after opening the scoring against Georgia. A reported calf-muscle injury may keep him out of this match.

A point would be enough to see Turkey finish in second place in the group, but the confidence they gained from their opening win will have somewhat evaporated after a comprehensive 3-0 defeat to Portugal. The first 20 minutes of that match were evenly contested, but Portugal scored soon after, and a calamitous own-goal from Samet Akaydin in the 28th-minute effectively sealed the outcome. Turkey did create a few chances, but will need to be more lethal in front of goal this time around.

Czech Republic vs Turkey Preview | Match Facts

  • These sides last met competitively in Euro 2016. They were drawn in the same qualifying group as well as the same group in the finals.
  • In the qualifying group, each side won their away fixture. The Czech Republic were victorious 2-1 in Istanbul, whilst Turkey won 2-0 in Prague. In the finals, Turkey won 2-0, although both sides were eliminated at the group stage.
  • In their most recent match, a friendly in 2022, Hakan Çalhanoğlu scored the winning goal in a 2-1 home win for Turkey.

Czech Republic vs Turkey | Current form

  • The defeat to Portugal in their opening match was only the second defeat for the Czech Republic from their last 15 matches,
  • Turkey have won just once in their last seven matches, in a run that includes a 6-1 loss to Austria in a friendly in March.

Score prediction: Czech Republic 2-1 Turkey
