Lightning Dragon Tiger

Dragon Tiger is a popular and simple game that originated in Asia.

Evolution have added a twist to their version by incorporating their ‘Lightning’ feature, thus giving enhanced payouts if you win with a lightning card when playing Lightning Dragon Tiger.

How do you play Lightning Dragon Tiger?

In the basic game, simply bet on the dragon or the tiger, or on one of the side bets. The lightning suit and multiplier is then randomly generated on the screen.

One card is dealt to the dragon side of the table and one card to the tiger side. The highest card wins!

If the highest card matches the suit of the lightning card, then the multiplier is applied. For ties and suited ties, this can produce some nice multipliers!

How many packs of cards are used in Lightning Dragon Tiger?

Eight decks of 52 playing cards are shuffled together and placed in a dealing shoe. These cards are replaced when around two decks remain.

Placing a bet in Lightning Dragon Tiger

There are four positions on which you can place a bet:

  • Dragon
  • Tiger
  • Tie
  • Suited Tie

Choose your stake by clicking on one of the currency values, then click on the position you wish to bet on.

As each bet is placed, the amount staked and the number of players betting on either dragon or tiger are displayed in the betting area.

A 20% ‘Lightning fee’ is charged for each bet, which allows the odds on the winning hands to remain the same as in the regular game. This means that, if you place a €5 bet in Lightning Dragon Tiger, any winnings will be calculated based on your €5 stake, but it will actually cost you €6 to place the bet.

The Lightning Card is generated

Once betting has closed, the lightning card is randomly generated in the bottom left-hand side of the playing area. This card will be one of the four suits and have a multiplier of between 2x and 8x.

If the winning card matches the suit of the lightning card, then the multiplier is applied to the stake of the winning bet.

Dealing the cards in Lightning Dragon Tiger

Once the lightning card has been generated, the dealer then deals two cards, one to the dragon position and one to the tiger position.

Both cards are dealt face-up, with the first card always dealt to the dragon side.

The side with the highest card value is the winner. If the cards are of the same value but contain different suits, this results in a tie. If two cards of the same value and suit are dealt, this results in a suited tie.

In Lightning Dragon Tiger, the ace is low and has a value of one. Therefore, the highest value card is a king, followed by a queen and jack, then the numbered cards from 10 down to an ace.

How are payouts calculated for winning bets?

If you place a winning bet and there are no multipliers, the payouts for both dragon and tiger are 1:1, for a tie it’s 6.5:1, and for a suited tie you’ll get 20:1.

This will increase by between 2x and 8x if the suit of the winning card matches the suit of the lightning card.

If both cards in a tie have the same suit, then the multipliers will apply to both, giving a maximum multiplier of 1280:1.

The highest potential payout is calculated by the multiplier for a suited tie (20:1), multiplied twice by an 8x multiplier for that suit (once for each card in the tie), resulting in a 1280:1 multiplier (20 x 8 x 8).

If the multiplier on a suited tie was X3, then the calculation would be 20 x 3 x 3, giving a final payout ratio of 120:1

The payouts include the value of the stake, so a successful €5 bet on dragon at odds of 1:1 would give a payout of €10.

At the end of each round, the image of the winning side is highlighted before a new game is started.

Previous game results

You can see the results of previous games depicted in a variety of ways in the bottom right-hand side of the playing area.

The statistics displayed there are always cleared when a new shoe is introduced.

The Bead Road and Big Road display the results of each previous round, whilst the Big Eye Road, Small Road, and Cockroach Road display patterns derived from the Big Road.

In the results, a yellow cell indicates a tiger win, a red cell indicates a dragon win, and ties are shown as green cells.  If a lightning multiplier was applied to a result, that is also highlighted.
