In this article, we’ll take an in-depth look at Virtual Sports Horse Racing, walk you through the different race types and highlight the many different betting options available.
Virtual Sports Horse Racing
There are three different types of horse racing simulations provided by Kiron. They are:
- Dashing Derby (Flat Racing)
- Jumping
- Carriage Driving
Dashing Derby, Jumping and Carriage Driving
In the three simulations from Kiron, the visual display differs between the horse racing variants. However, the betting options are consistent between each one.
In the examples below, the screenshots are from the ‘Horse Racing. Jumping’ simulation, though the bet types and descriptions apply equally to the other two.
Races start every two minutes, with the number of runners in each race ranging from eight to 14.
Virtual Horse Racing Cards
In the racecard shown below, there are 10 runners. The horses are listed in price order, with the shortest price first.
The details depicted on this racecard, from left to right, are:
- Horse Number
- Rider colours
- Horse name
- F1 – F3, meaning 1st favourite, 2nd favourite and 3rd favourite
- Horse rating
- Last five finishes
- Odds to win the race
- Odds to be placed in the race (in the first three positions)
- The horse numbers repeated. Here you select two or more horses for various combination bets (as explained in the bet types section).
To see the last five races of any individual horse in more detail, click on the associated rating image and a pop-up box as shown below will appear. This shows the last five finishes as displayed on the main racecard, but also includes the distance behind the winner in each of those races.
Types of Horse Racing Bets – Win and Place
The simplest bets available on any race involve picking a horse to win, to be placed, or both. If you place a bet on a horse to ‘place’, your bet will be successful if that horse finishes in any of the first three positions.
To place your bet, click on the appropriate win or place odds by your selection, and it will be added to the betslip.
The bet type, win or place, is shown above the horse’s name, with the odds for that selection showing to the right.
You can change individual stakes on any of the bets. If you want to place the same bet value on each selection, clicking the ‘stake’ box at the bottom of the betslip will apply the amount entered there to each bet.
Note: The ‘total to win’ amount displayed is based on all the selections being successful, which is not always possible (not more than one horse can win, nor more than three horses be placed). Thus, the highest potential win would be the biggest winning amount from a win bet added to the three biggest winning amounts for place bets.
Types of Horse Racing Bets – Combo Bets
The combo bets are slightly more complex, but can be attractive to players, as they may provide bigger potential returns for smaller stakes. These bets involve picking the first two or three horses to finish, either in the correct order or in any order.
There are five different types of combo bets available, and once at least two selections are chosen by clicking on the horse number in the ‘combos’ column, the available bets will appear on the right-hand side.
In the example above, three horses have been selected. The five bet types available and their description are as follows:
- Exacta
A bet on two horses to finish first and second in the correct order.
- Quinella
A bet on two horses to finish first and second in either order.
- Trifecta
A bet on three horses to finish first, second and third in the correct order.
- Trio
A bet on three horses to finish first, second and third in any order.
- Swinger
A bet on any two horses to finish in any of the first three positions.
To add any of these to your betslip, click on the appropriate green box and the bet will be added. You can change the stakes individually on any of the bets.
Where the bets are just one combo, the min and max odds displayed will be the same.
In those combos with more than one permutation, the min and max odds will be displayed alongside the winning combination that will give those odds.
Where multiple combos within the same bet are placed with one stake, that stake will be apportioned equally between the different options.
Situated above the racecard, you’ll also see two further sets of prices:
The ones to the left are ‘odd/even’, and on the right ‘high/low’.
These relate to the number of the winner of the race, and the prices will vary depending on the relative chances of the selected group in a particular race.
Types of Horse Racing Bets – Different Combo Bet Options
The amount of available bets will depend on how you choose your selections.
The following screenshots show a few examples of some of the different options, but you will see the text in the green boxes update with each click you make.
In the simplest example, two horses are selected to come first and second. If we use the Exacta bet as the guide, it shows as just one bet on the nominated order. If you wanted to bet on those same horses to come first and second in either order, then the Quinella would be the bet to place.
However, if we wanted to expand that bet and we think either of the top two horses could finish first, and the next horse listed will finish next best to one or either of them, we could place the following bet using the original selections as ‘bankers’. To do this, select them a second time and the selected boxes will turn orange, as shown below.
Here, we see the Exacta is now showing as four combinations. If we consider the horses as A, B and C, where A and B are the bankers, the four bets are as follows:
A to beat B
B to beat A
A to beat C
B to beat C
C to beat either A or B is not covered, as the latter two are selected as bankers and thus either one must finish first.
Types of Horse Racing Bets – Multiple Bet Options
When you select any of the race formats, there are always several races available on which to place bets. This allows you to not only place single bets, but also to place multiple bets across two or more races.
As you can see in the example below, you can mix different bet types (win/place/odd/low) in the same multiple bet.
There are four selections in this bet, covered in 6 x doubles (group 2), 4 x trebles (group 3) and 1 x 4-fold (group 4). The total stakes in the box for each group is apportioned equally, so here there are 6 x doubles at 50c each, giving a total stake for that part of the bet of €3.00.
Virtual Horse Racing Race Simulation – Jumping
When the betting time has expired, the race will begin. As the race unfolds, the numerical order of the horses is shown at the bottom of the screen alongside the pictures from the race.
Once the race is completed, the finishing order of the first three horses to finish is shown.
